Install Falcon
Falcon installs like any other Shopify app. It takes a minute, and your return page is live as soon as you approve the install.
Install from the Shopify App Store
- Open the Falcon - Returns and Exchanges listing on the Shopify App Store.
- Click Install.
- Shopify shows the permissions Falcon needs. Review them and approve.
- You land on the Falcon Dashboard inside your Shopify admin.
There is no plan to choose during install. Every store starts on the Free plan. You can switch plans at any time from Plan and billing. See Plans and billing.
Permissions Falcon asks for
Shopify asks you to approve these permissions during install. Each one is used for a specific part of the return flow.
| Permission | Why Falcon needs it |
|---|---|
| Read orders | Find the customer's order, its items and its fulfillments, on the return page and in the admin. |
| Write orders | Send the invoice when an exchange costs more than the returned items. |
| Read and write returns | Create, approve, cancel and process Shopify returns. |
| Read customers | Match customers who are signed in to your store with their orders. |
| Read products | Show products and variants that customers can exchange for. |
| Read inventory | Offer only exchange variants that are in stock. |
| Read locations | Choose where returned items are restocked. |
| Write gift cards | Issue a gift card as the refund, and bonus credit rewards. |
| Write discounts | Issue a discount code as the refund. |
| Read store credit accounts and write store credit transactions | Refund to the customer's store credit. |
| Read and write merchant-managed fulfillment orders | Return items from orders you fulfil yourself. |
| Write app proxy | Serve the return page inside your store, at /apps/falcon-returns. |
Customer details
To run returns, Falcon reads some customer details from the order:
- Name: shown on each return so your team knows whose parcel it is, and printed on the return label as the sender.
- Email: used to check that the customer owns the order before they can start a return, and to send return status emails.
- Phone: lets customers verify with a phone number instead of email, and is added to the return label when the order's shipping address has one.
- Address: printed as the ship-from address on return labels.
Falcon uses this data only to process returns for your store. See Privacy and data.
What happens the first time you open Falcon
Falcon sets up your store with working defaults, so you can take a test return straight away.
- Your return page is live at your store's address followed by
/apps/falcon-returns. It uses a clean default look that you can change in the Return page editor. - Return reasons are ready: Size too small, Size too large, Changed my mind, Not as described, Arrived damaged, Received the wrong item, and Other. Some ask the customer for a comment or a photo. See Return reasons.
- Resolutions are ready: Exchange for the same item and Refund to original payment method are on. Store credit, gift card, discount code and exchange for a different item are off until you turn them on. See Refunds and exchanges.
- Shipping options are ready: Use a return label from us and Ship it yourself are on. See Shipping options.
- Customer emails are ready for every step of a return, with default text. See Email notifications.
- Your store's contact email is used for replies and for "new return" emails to you, until you change it.
- A welcome email goes once to your store's email address, with the first steps.
