Setup guide
The Get set up card at the top of the Dashboard lists five steps. When they are done, your customers can find your return page and you are ready to handle their requests.
How the card works
- The card shows your progress, for example 2 of 5 done, with a progress bar.
- The next step that isn't done is open. It shows a short description and a button that takes you to the right place.
- Other open steps show their button as a link on the right.
- When every step is done, the card says You're all set.
Some steps tick themselves when Falcon sees the work is done. Others you tick yourself, because Falcon can't check them reliably.
| Step | How it gets ticked |
|---|---|
| Set your return policy | You tick it |
| Add the return page to your store | You tick it |
| Turn on customer emails | Automatically, when emails can be sent |
| Connect return labels | Automatically, when Shippo is connected |
| Try a test return | Automatically, when your store has its first return |
To tick a step yourself, click the circle next to it or click Mark as done. Click the circle again to untick it.
Step 1: Set your return policy
Decide your return window, any fees, and which items can come back.
- Click Open return policy. It opens Settings → Return policy.
- Set your window, fees and blocked items, then save.
- Back on the Dashboard, click Mark as done.
See Return policy.
Step 2: Add the return page to your store
Customers need a link to find the page. A footer or help menu link works best.
- Click Copy link and open menus. Falcon copies your return page link and opens Content → Menus in Shopify.
- Add the link to your footer or help menu and save.
- Back on the Dashboard, click Mark as done.
See Add the return link to your store for the full steps.
Step 3: Turn on customer emails
Customers get an email when their return is received, approved, refunded and so on. You can send from Falcon's address straight away, or connect your own mailbox.
- Click Set up emails. It opens Settings → Email notifications.
- Choose how emails are sent.
This step ticks itself once Falcon can send emails for your store. See Email notifications and Send from your own mailbox.
Step 4: Connect return labels
This step is optional. Connect it if you want to send customers prepaid return labels through your own Shippo account.
- Click Set up labels. It opens Settings → Carriers and labels.
- Connect your Shippo account.
This step ticks itself once labels are connected. See Prepaid labels with Shippo.
Skipping labels
If you don't use prepaid labels, you can leave this step open, or hide the whole card when the rest is done.
Step 5: Try a test return
See exactly what your customers see.
- Place a test order in your store and mark it as fulfilled in Shopify.
- Click Open return page. Your return page opens in a new tab.
- Sign in with the order number and the order's email, pick an item and submit the request.
This step ticks itself as soon as your store has its first return. The new request appears under Returns and in Recent requests on the Dashboard. See The customer journey.
Hide the card
Click the X (Hide setup guide) at the top right of the card. The card stays hidden, even if some steps are still open.
The rest of the Dashboard
Below the setup card, the Dashboard shows:
- Four numbers for the last 30 days, compared with the 30 days before: Revenue kept, Refunded, Return requests and Return value.

- Revenue kept vs refunded: a daily chart.
- Recent requests: your five latest returns. Click View all to open Returns.
