Languages
Starter plan and upYour return page can speak your customers' language. Falcon translates its built-in text for you. You can also write your own text for each language.
Supported languages
| Language | Shown to customers as |
|---|---|
| English | English |
| French | Français |
| German | Deutsch |
| Spanish | Español |
| Italian | Italiano |
| Dutch | Nederlands |
| Portuguese | Português |
| Hebrew | עברית |
Your default language is marked Default and is always on. Publishing extra languages needs the Starter plan or higher. On the Free plan, the Languages card lists only your default language, with an Available on Starter button.
Publish a language
- In Falcon, go to Return page.
- Find the Languages card.
- Turn on the switch next to the language you want.
The change saves right away. You see "Languages published". The language now shows Published.
To unpublish, turn the switch off. When you turn off the last extra language, you see "Extra languages turned off".
Click Preview next to any published language to open your live return page in that language. Click Edit content next to your default language to open the editor.
How customers get their language
Falcon picks the language for each visit in this order:
- The language the customer chose with the switcher.
- Their browser language, if you've published it.
- Your default language.
Once a customer picks a language, it stays the same on every page as they go through their return.
The language switcher
When you have more than one language published, a language menu with a globe icon appears at the top of the return page. It lists each language by its own name, such as Français or Deutsch.
What gets translated
- Built-in text is translated for you: step titles, buttons, labels, messages and the status page.
- Text you wrote yourself in the editor stays exactly as you wrote it, until you write a version for that language.
- Product names and other details from your store show as they are in Shopify.
For a new language, the sign-in form labels and messages start as Falcon's built-in translation. Your own heading and bottom description stay as you wrote them, unless you kept Falcon's default text, which is translated.
Write your own text for a language
- In Falcon, go to Return page and click Customize.
- Above the preview, open Localized content and pick the language.
- Open the Text tab. It says which language you are editing.
- Change any field. Until you do, the tab notes "Showing the built-in translation. Edit any field to write your own."
- Click Save.
Each language keeps its own copy of every field on the Text tab, including the return policy pop-up. See Return page editor.
Names of resolutions and shipping options
The names and descriptions of your resolutions and shipping options are set in Settings → Refunds and exchanges and Settings → Shipping options. See Refunds and exchanges and Shipping options.
Right-to-left for Hebrew
When the page shows in Hebrew, the page switches to right-to-left, so text and layout read from the right. You don't need to set anything.
If you change plans
If your store moves to a plan without extra languages, your return page shows only your default language. Your published languages and the text you wrote are kept, and come back if you upgrade again.
