Export returns
Falcon can download your return requests as a CSV file that opens in Excel, Numbers or Google Sheets. The Analytics page can also export the trend chart you are looking at. Exports work on every plan.
Export from the Returns list
- Open Returns.
- Set the tab, filters and search to the requests you want. The export follows them exactly. The All tab leaves out archived requests, as the list does.
- Click Export at the top of the page.
The file downloads as returns-YYYY-MM-DD.csv, named with today's date.
Export only some requests
- Tick the rows you want.
- Click Export selected.
You can export up to 500 selected requests at a time.
How much is exported
An export holds up to 5,000 requests, newest first, whatever sort the list uses. For more, narrow the date range or filters and export in parts.
Columns
| Column | What it holds |
|---|---|
| RMA | The return number, for example R-10023 |
| Request date | When the request was created (UTC, ISO format) |
| Request status | Pending review, Approved, Resolved, Rejected or Archived |
| Order | The Shopify order name, for example #1042 |
| Customer | Customer name |
| Customer email | |
| Items | Each item as "Title (Variant) xQuantity", separated by semicolons |
| Reasons | The return reasons used, each listed once, separated by semicolons |
| Solution | "Refund · Original payment", "Refund · Store credit", "Refund · Gift card", "Refund · Discount code", "Exchange" or "Replace" |
| Shipping method | Merchant label, Ship on your own, Green return or Pickup |
| Shipping status | No label yet, Label ready, In transit or Delivered. Empty for green returns. |
| Tracking number | Return parcel tracking number |
| Currency | Order currency code |
| Expected refund | Refund due, including any bonus credit |
| Refunded | Amount already refunded |
| Exchange total | Value of exchange items |
| Customer pays | Amount the customer owes, for example on an exchange for a pricier item |
| Shopify return | The matching Shopify return name |
| Tags | Request tags, separated by semicolons |
Amounts use two decimals in the order currency, for example 45.00. The currency code is in its own column.
Spreadsheet safety
A cell that starts with =, +, -, @, a tab or a line break gets a leading apostrophe so spreadsheets treat it as text, not a formula. The file is UTF-8 with a byte order mark, so Excel shows names with accents correctly.
Export from Analytics
The Trend card on Analytics has an Export CSV button. It downloads the metric you have selected for the current date range, one row per day. The file is named after the metric and the date range.
| Tab | Metrics you can export |
|---|---|
| Overview | Return requests, Return items, Return value |
| Money | Revenue kept, Refunded, Fees |
The file has a Date column and the metric. Money metrics use two decimals. If comparison with the prior period is on, it adds a "(prior period)" column. The Money tab is part of full analytics on Growth and Pro.
When an export doesn't download
- "There are no return requests to export with these filters." Clear some filters or change the tab.
- "We couldn't build the export right now. Try again in a moment." Wait a moment and click Export again.
Exports and customer data requests
When a customer asks a store for their data, Shopify sends the request to Falcon. Falcon logs it but doesn't send any data itself. To answer, search Returns for the customer's email, check the Archived tab too, then click Export and send the customer the file. See Privacy and data.
